New York – The Lehman College collected its highest scoring output of the season in a 6-3 win over CCNY in a game played in New York on Wednesday. The team is now 3-4-1 overall and 1-1 in the CUNYAC.
It was the team's offensive leader,
Daisy Gomez who got the Lightning on the board first with a tally just 3:48 into action. The junior from Port Chester, New York, was just getting started as her day would end with a hat trick.
It was Gomez who was on the happy side of the 2-0 marker at 22:58. Pamela Sanchez played a ball into the box and Gomez got her head to it and found the back of the net. Less than four minutes later, just when it seemed like Lehman was going to run away with it, the Beavers got on the board to make the score 2-1. Both sides would score once more before the half as the Lightning led 3-2 at the intermission. The third goal was an unassisted tally from
Daniela Castro.
Gomez completed her hat trick barely a minute into the second half. She scored an unassisted marker at 45:30 to make the score 4-2, Lehman.
Melanie Siranaula and
Lillian Barreto each scored later in the half as the Lightning went on to win, 6-3.
It was Gomez's first hat trick of the season.
Rebecca Gritz made six saves in the win. The Lightning had 14 shots on goal to just nine for the Beavers.
The Lehman College women's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, September 23, when they face St. Joseph's College in Patchogue, New York. Kickoff is slated for 4:30 PM.
