INTERIVEW WITH BARRETO
Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's soccer team ended a two-game-losing-streak with a 3-0 shutout of the College of Mount Saint Vincent from the South Field on Saturday. With the win, the team improved to 4-6-1 overall.
The Lightning came out fast against their Bronx counterparts, pressing the attack early on in the half. Their diligence was rewarded in the 11
th minute when
Lillian Barreto capitalized on a Dolphins turnover. After stealing the ball, she streaked down the left side of the box, found
Daniela Castro in the middle, who beat the keeper to the left for the game's first goal.
Barreto put Lehman up 2-0 in the 32
rd minute. After gaining possession at midfield,
Daisy Gomez played a long ball into the box, where Baretto was able to flick the ball past the keeper. The score was 2-0 at the half.
Lehman put the game on ice in the 77
th minute. A perfectly timed run from Castro culminated her second goal of the contest.
Gredia Sanchez-Espejel placed a through ball into the box and Castro timed her run beautifully so as to remain on sides. She took the pass and chipped the ball past the keeper for a goal. The Lightning won, 3-0.
The victory was Castro's first multi-goal game of the season.
Rebecca Gritz parried four shots to earn her fourth clean-sheet of the season.
The Lehman College women's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, October 7, when they host York College at 11 AM. The game is the first of a doubleheader that will see the men's soccer team welcome John Jay to the Bronx at 1:30 PM.
