Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's soccer team earned its first result of the season as they played SUNY Maritime to a scoreless draw on Wednesday in Throggs Neck. The time is now 0-2-1 on the year.
Gredia Sanchez and Melanie Siranula each had scoring changes in the first 12 minutes of action, but were both denied by the Privateers' goalie. Emily Herera nearly put Lehman up 1-0 in the 37
th minute. She got a one-on-one with the defender but her shot caromed off the back's leg and off target.
The Lightning were turned aside in the 81
st minute when a Siranula chip from 20-yards out was parried by the Maritime keeper. The game went into overtime scoreless. Lehman goalie
Rebecca Gritz preserved the tie with a save in the 108
th minute. It ended at 0-0.
In the tie, the Lightning outshot the Privateers, 12-9, and doubled them in corner kicks, 4-2. Siranaula had four shots on goal, while Sanchez added another.
Rebecca Gritz made seven saves to earn the clean sheet.
The Lehman College women's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, September 9, when they host Bryn Mawr College at 2PM.
