Women’s Soccer Earns Second-Straight Result with 1-0 Blanking of Bryn Mawr

Post-Game Interview with Goal Scorer Gomez

Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's soccer team posted its second-straight clean sheet in a 1-0 victory over Bryn Mawr College in a game played at the South Field on Saturday.  Following a scoreless draw with Maritime, the Lightning have now recorded two-straight results and improved to 1-2-1 on the year.

Lehman controlled possession early on, dominating play in the first five minutes of action, but it was Lighting goalie Rebecca Gritz that was tested first, making a save in the 11th minute.  All told, the freshman keeper made seven saves to earn her second-straight clean sheet.

Lehman's first scoring chance came in the 14th minute when a Melanie Siranaula shot was stopped by Bryan Mawr goalie, Leah Baer.  Less than six minutes later, Siranaula nearly scored again when she got her head to a cross, but Bear was once again up to the charge.

The Lightning finally broke through in the 24th minute.  Pamela Sanchez had the ball along the left flank.  She flicked it into the middle of the box where Daisy Gomez finished it with a shot inside the far post.  Lehman led 1-0 at the half.

Bryn Mawr pushed the attack in the second half, dominating possession, but they failed to score as Gritz made three additional saves.  The game ended in a 1-0 shutout for Lehman.

The Lehman College women's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday, September 13, when they host the College of Staten Island.  The kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
