Women’s Soccer Drop 2-1 Decision To CSI

Bronx, N.Y. – Ten-game home regular season unbeaten streak came to an end on Wednesday evening as Lehman College women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to CUNYAC leader College of Staten Island (CSI) at South Field.  The Lightning go to 6-3-1 record and 2-1 CUNYAC, while the Dolphins improve to 8-6 and unblemished 5-0 mark in conference play.

After a scoreless first half, the encounter turned more intense in the second stanza as both sides looking to get on the board.  The match got more physical with total of 33 team fouls (Lehman – 11, CSI – 22) as referee also gave out six yellow card cautions (Lehman – 2, CSI – 4).

Dolphins' midfielder Nermina Bracic broke the 0-0 deadlock in the 71st minute after she was credited for the goal following an error from the Lightning defense.

Forward Samantha LaValle notched CSI's second tally off an assist from Bracic in the 84th minute.  However, two minutes later Lehman midfielder Melanie Siranaula scored to make it 2-1.

The Lightning had a chance for the equalizer off a corner kick in the last minute of play, but defender Tawanda Kerr's shot against Dolphins' goalkeeper Kaila DiBenedetto went wide.

Lehman returns to action tomorrow (Thursday) at South Field when it greets Yeshiva University in a non-conference encounter at 6 pm.
