Brooklyn, NY - The Lehman College women's soccer team defeated conference rival Brooklyn 6-1 to improve to 7-4-1 overall and 3-1 in the CUNYAC. Brooklyn fell to 3-9:2-3.
The Lightning jumped all over the Bulldogs scoring three goals in the first 15 minutes of the contest. Daniela Castro put the Lightning on the board in the eighth minute as she gathered a loose ball in the box and buried it for her first score of the night. A minute later she doubled the lead as she tallied her third of the season on an assist from Yosselin Alvarez. On Lehman's third goal, Daisy Gomez found the back of the net converting a pass from Castro. Ten minutes later Brooklyn got on the scoreboard as Keri Kenna notched her seventh of the season. Lehman pushed the advantage back up to three when Julieth Noguez tallied her first goal of the season in the 33rd minute. Melanie Siranaula tallied a pair of second half goals for the final margin of victory.
The Lightning outshot the Bulldogs 24-4 and owned a 7-0 advantage in corners. Lehman goalkeeper Rebecca Gritz was called upon to make three saves in earning her fifth shutout.
The Lightning return to action on Saturday as they host John Jay in a key conference matchup. Kick-off is scheduled from 11 AM. Lehman will honor the seniors on the team in a pre-game ceremony.
