Tennis Falls to Baruch in Opening Round of CUNYAC Tournament

Edgewater, NJ - The Lehman College women's tennis team dropped a hard fought 5-4 decision to Baruch in the opening round of the CUNYAC Tennis Championship. With the loss the Lightning conclude their season with a record of 4-9.

Playing at the Binghamton Racquet Club, the Lightning number one double team of Lizaveta Markouskaya and Diwa Rana prevailed 8-5.  However, the Bearcats took the points at second and third doubles winning 8-1 and 8-6 respectively.

In the singles competition, Baruch grabbed second and third singles winning 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0.  The Lightning rallied with Rana winning in the fourth hole by the scores of 6-3, 6-1 and the sixth spot as Yohara Molineros prevailed 6-2, 6-1.  Moments later Markouskaya beat her opponent at first singles knotting the match at four. Needing only one more match to survive and advance, Lehman's Joanna Rosario rallied after dropping the first set at love to win the second set 6-2.  However it wasn't meant to be for the Lightning as Baruch's Natalie Ibelhaupt was able to thwart the Lehman comeback winning the third set 6-1 sending the Bearcats on to the semis.

It was the sixth time this season that the Lightning came out on the wrong side of a 5-4 decision.

Baruch now stands at 7-4 and moves onto the semi-finals to face Brooklyn on Tuesday afternoon.
