Women’s Soccer Defeats Old Westbury 2-0

Bronx, N.Y. – Second half goals from midfielders Daisy Gomez and Yosselin Alvarez gave Lehman College women's soccer team a 2-0 win over visiting College at Old Westbury in a non-conference encounter on Sunday at South Field.  The Lightning improve to overall record of 6-2-1, while the Panthers drop to 3-10 mark.

Lehman dominated the first half outshooting Old Westbury 9-1 which forced the visiting goalkeeper Alex Higgins to make five key saves to keep it scoreless.

The Lightning finally broke through the Panthers' defense 52nd minute of the second half as Gomez scored her sixth tally of the season off a double-assist from midfielders Melanie Siranaula and Jessica Chacha.

With eight minutes remaining, Alvarez notched her first goal of the season for Lehman as she shot onto an empty net after Old Westbury's Higgins couldn't handle a cross inside the penalty box.

Lightning goalkeeper Rebecca Gritz made three key saves to earn her fifth shutout of the season.

The victory also extends the Lehman's unbeaten streak at home to 10 regular season games.

The Lightning continue their home stand at South Field when they hosts College of Staten Island in a CUNYAC match-up on Wednesday at 7 pm.
