Women’s Basketball to Host First Round Playoff Game

Pre Game Hype Video

The Lehman College women's basketball team enters the 2018 CUNYAC post season tournament as the number three seed and will host Baruch at 1:00 PM on Sunday, February, 18th in the APEX.

The Lightning needed a victory over Hunter this past Tuesday night to capture the third seed.  The three Lehman All-Star seniors delivered on senior day as they each netted double figures in the 85-81 victory.  Ayanna Behagen and Lynda Fields each scored 17 points while Aliyah Dorsett posted a double double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.  However, it was a career high 23 points from junior Selena Lopez that put the Lightning over the top.

Baruch the sixth seed enters the game with a 7-14:7-9 record.  The Bearcats are led by Shannon Barrett.  The CUNYAC All-Star is averaging 17.5 points and 11.4 rebounds on the season.  She has posted 13 double doubles.

The Lightning swept the series from Baruch.  In early January, Lehman need two overtime periods to prevail 96-94.  Lehman was up 23 points midway through the third period and let it all slip away.  It was a pair of Ayanna Behagen free throws with :14 seconds remaining in regulation that sent the game into overtime.  The first overtime ended with Lynda Fields hitting a pair of free throws to extend the contest to another extra period.  The Lightning took over in the second O.T. after three of Baruch's starters eventually fouled out.  Lehman led by six, 94-88, after Behagen made two foul shots with 0:21 left.  Baruch managed to score the next four points and pulled within 94-92.  Fields sealed the game with two more freebies down the stretch.  Dorsett and Fields each finished with 25 points.  Behagen and Selena Gomez both recorded double-double with Behagen posting 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Gomez totaled 13 and 15.  Garcia came off the bench to score a dozen and give out eight assists.

In the rematch at the ARC, two and half weeks ago, the Lightning cruised to an 80-57 victory as six Lightning players tallied double figures.
