Slow Start Dooms Lehman in Semi Final Loss to CSI

New York - The Lehman College women's basketball team ended its season with an 80-56 loss to the College of Staten Island in the CUNYAC semi-final from CCNY on Wednesday.  The Lightning fell behind 16-2 in the first four minutes of action and were never able to recover.

Trailing by that 16-2 score, Lehman showed some fight and used an 8-0 run to pull within 16-10.  Ayanna Behagen accounted for four points in that scoring spree, Selena Lopez made a basket and Lisa Fields and Lynda Fields each added a foul shot.  The Dolphins led 18-10 after a quarter.  Lehman couldn't get the deficit into single digits in the second quarter and trailed 35-20 at the half.

A Lopez bucket at the 2:50 mark of the third quarter got the Lightning within eight, at 43-35.  CSI quickly answered with a three-pointer and pushed the advantage back into double digits.  They led 50-40 after three quarters.

Aliyah Dorsett opened the final quarter with a basket and Lehman was again within single digits, 50-42.  A Lynda Fields free throw shortly thereafter got them within seven and a Behagen foul shot at 7:28 made the score 54-48, Dolphins.  Lehman could never get it into a single possession as CSI won 80-56.

In the game, Lynda Fields scored a game-best 18 points.  Behagen had 13 points on 6-12 shooting.  Lisa Fields scored ten and Dorsett grabbed 10 rebounds.  The team finished the 2017-18 season with 16-11 overall mark and an 11-5 conference ledger.
