Men’s Volleyball Runs Win Streak to Four with Victory over Yeshiva

Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's volleyball team won its fourth straight match with a 3-0 victory over Yeshiva on Thursday in the Bronx.  The Lightning have captured 12 straight sets.  The scores against the Maccabees were 25-11, 25-5 and 25-12.

Lehman took a 6-0 lead in the opening set and never looked back.  George Montilla served all six points and picked up three aces. Yaw Eshun and Mentor Mahmuti each had a kill.  The lead got to ten points when Montilla set up Mahmuti for a kill that made the score 16-6.  Peter Veljovic took care of set one with a kill.

Yeshiva took the first point in set two.  From there, Lehman took control via a 10-0 run.  In the scoring spree, Montilla had five aces.  Xayveon Williams and Andres Felipe Delgado Velandia had a kill, while Mahmuti added two more.  Later in the set, Jose Bautista sparked another 8-0 run with strong serving of his own.  Set two went to the Lightning, 25-5.

Set three was close early on as neither side could gain control.  Lehman slowly pulled away, using a Mahmuti serve to force a Yeshiva error and put the Lightning up ten, 18-8.  A Mahmuti kill gave the set to Lehman, 25-12.

In the victory, Nam Ho recorded seven digs.  Mahmuti added ten kills and nine digs, while Montilla totaled 37 assists and nine aces.

With the win, the team improved to 8-5 overall.  They return to action on Saturday March 3 when they travel to Union, New Jersey to face Keane at 3PM.
