Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's volleyball team won its fourth straight match with a 3-0 victory over Yeshiva on Thursday in the Bronx. The Lightning have captured 12 straight sets. The scores against the Maccabees were 25-11, 25-5 and 25-12.
Lehman took a 6-0 lead in the opening set and never looked back. George Montilla served all six points and picked up three aces. Yaw Eshun and Mentor Mahmuti each had a kill. The lead got to ten points when Montilla set up Mahmuti for a kill that made the score 16-6. Peter Veljovic took care of set one with a kill.
Yeshiva took the first point in set two. From there, Lehman took control via a 10-0 run. In the scoring spree, Montilla had five aces. Xayveon Williams and Andres Felipe Delgado Velandia had a kill, while Mahmuti added two more. Later in the set, Jose Bautista sparked another 8-0 run with strong serving of his own. Set two went to the Lightning, 25-5.
Set three was close early on as neither side could gain control. Lehman slowly pulled away, using a Mahmuti serve to force a Yeshiva error and put the Lightning up ten, 18-8. A Mahmuti kill gave the set to Lehman, 25-12.
In the victory, Nam Ho recorded seven digs. Mahmuti added ten kills and nine digs, while Montilla totaled 37 assists and nine aces.
With the win, the team improved to 8-5 overall. They return to action on Saturday March 3 when they travel to Union, New Jersey to face Keane at 3PM.
