Brooklyn, N.Y. - The Lehman College men's basketball team won its 11th consecutive game on Thursday with a 91-68 victory at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn. The team, which is currently first in the CUNYAC, improved to 19-4 overall and 13-1 in conference play.
Four Lightning players reached double-figures in scoring with Mylo Mitchell posting a team-best 27 points on 11-15 shooting. Andrew Utate had an identical shooting line, but only totaled 23, while Luis Hernandez had 18 and Jean Marcial finished with 12. John Brens came off the bench to post a game-high eight assists.
Lehman jumped out to a 12-2 lead early as Utate made a bucket to push the lead to ten. The Cougars rallied to pull within six before the Lightning countered once again. This time the advantage swelled to 15 points courtesy of a Miguel Haboosh layup at 9:07. The fifteen point lead was the largest of the half as neither scored in the final two minutes. Lehman led at the break, 43-31.
A couple of free throws by Brens at 13:54 gave Lehman a 21-point cushion, 58-37. A three-pointer from Utate at the 2:28 mark gave the Lightning their largest lead of the contest, 27 points, at 91-64. They won the game 91-68.
The Lehman College men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, February 10, when they host the second-place, College of Staten Island, at 2PM. The game is a battle between the top two teams in the CUNYAC.
