Bronx, NY - The Lehman College softball team dropped a doubleheader to Rutgers Newark by scores of 9-1 and 18-3 in a pair of games played on the South Field Tuesday night. The team returned to play after a nine day layoff due to weather cancellations.
The team showed a little rust batting the twinbill, managing just six hits in the two games. Game one went to the Scarlet Raiders, 9-1, in five innings. Lehman's run came on a fourth-inning blast to dead center by Diamond Villegas. The solo homerun was the first of the year for her. Tiffany Adames had the other hit in the game.
Game two went to Rutgers Newark, 18-3, in five innings. Villegas was the hitting star once again, blasting another homer to dead center. The two-run-shot also plated Maranda Diaz, who had a pair of hits in the game. Caitlin Vernon also had a hit and an RBI and leads the team with a .366 batting average.
The team is now 4-11 on the year. They return to action on Wednesday, March 28, when they host Sarah Lawrence College for a doubleheader beginning at 4PM.
