Melanie Huerta's second half goal gave Lehman College women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over visiting Brooklyn College in a CUNYAC encounter at South Field on Saturday afternoon. The Lightning go to 4-10 overall ledger and 4-1 in CUNYAC play, while the Bulldogs drop to 4-10-1 record and 2-3 in conference play.
Saturday's encounter was also "Senior Day" as midfielder
Valeria Rojas Alingue was honored prior to kickoff.
Lehman jumped all over Brooklyn in the first half outshooting them 10-0 and however it remained scoreless as the Bulldogs goalkeeper Carmen Proffitt made six key saves.
In the second half, Brooklyn began to pressure the Lehman defense and posted three shots on goal but Lightning goalkeeper
Rebecca Gritz stopped all of them.
Huerta finally broke down the Bulldogs defense when she scored her fifth goal of the season off an assist from defender
Emily Herrera in 70
th minute-mark. Gritz earned her third clean sheet of the season for Lehman.
The Lightning, whom already clinched a semifinal berth to CUNYAC Championship but await their opponent to be named later today, will wrap up the regular season with their home finale on Tuesday when they take on New Paltz at 5 pm.
