Tommy Batista came off the bench to lead the Lightning with 15 and seven rebounds but it wasn't enough as Lehman dropped their season opener to Rowan (2-0) 85-54 in the opening round of the Susquehanna Tip-off Tournament.
The first half was a back and forth affair with neither team having more than a five point lead. With the score knotted a 28, Batista nailed a three-pointer with 1:42 remaining in the half to give the Lightning a three point lead which they took to the locker room.
Lehman scored the first five points of the second half thanks to a jumper by
Will Feldman and a three from
Mo Idrissou to take an eight point lead their biggest of the night. However, the final 18 minutes of the contest were all Rowan. An 11-0 run over the next 1:30 gave the lead back to the Profs which they would not surrender.
Poor shooting by the Lightning in the second half was the difference as Lehman converted only 8-34 field goal attempts. The Lightning did hold the edge on the boards out-rebounding Rowan 53-51.
Newcomer
Gian Batista added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Lightning.
Tomorrow in the consolation game of the Susquehanna Tournament the Lightning will either play Kings or host Susquehanna at 1 PM.
