Old Westbury, NY – The Lehman College softball team dropped both ends of the twinbill against the Panthers of Old Westbury 2-1 and 8-0 to fall to 1-7. Old Westbury now stands at 4-2.
In the opener, the Lightning got on the board first plating a run in the third.
Stephany Cruz drew a one out walk and was able to advance to second when
Diamond Villegas reach on an error.
Caitlin Vernon's single up the middle scored Cruz. A pair of extra base hits by the Panthers knotted the game at one in the fourth. In the seventh, Old Westbury once again strung together a pair of extra base hits to earn the 2-1 victory. Villegas was the hard luck loser as she scattered six hits striking out nine. The Bronx native now stands at 1-3.
In the nightcap it was all Panthers. Old Westbury scored two runs in the first on one hit and a couple of Lehman errors. They went on to plate six runs on seven hits in the third for the final margin of victory. Villegas led the offense with a pair of hits in three at bats. Lehman was able to get four hits
Lehman returns to action Wednesday as the Drew Rangers invade South Field. First pitch of the double header is scheduled for 3 PM.
