Jersey City, NY – The Lehman College softball team (4-10) hung on to win the first game 6-5 but dropped the nightcap 2-0 against NJCU (3-13).
In game one, the Lightning got on the board in the second inning posting three runs. Lehman manufactured three runs on one hit, a single
Sherely De LaCruz, and a NJCU error. In their next at bat the Lightning plated another three runs to take a 6-0 lead. A single by
Marina Delgado, a double by
Anjolie Alexander and Sherely De La Cruz provided all the damage. The Gothic Knights made it interesting as they tallied two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth but Lehman ace
Diamond Villegas was able to sit NJCU down in their final at bat in order to earn her third victory of the year. Along the way she struck out 11.
In game two, the Lehman offense did not show up as the Lightning did not muster a hit in the shortened contest due to darkness. The teams only played five innings.
Tiffany Adames threw game two and only surrendered four hits. All of the runs came in the second inning as the Gothic Knights scored a pair of runs on three hits and a Lehman error.
The Lightning return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Long Island to face the Rams of Farmingdale in a 3:30 PM doubleheader.
