Bronxville, NY – The Lehman College softball squad dropped both ends of the doubleheader to Sarah Lawrence falling by scores of 12-4 and 8-0. The Lightning now stand at 4-12.
In the opener, the Gryphons scored early and often en route to victory. Sarah Lawrence scored three runs in the first two innings before Lehman scored.
Diamond Villegas blasted a one out solo home run to center field in the top of the third to get the Lightning on the board.
Caitlin Vernon then singled to left field and proceeded to steal later scoring on a two out single by
Maria Gilfilan. However Sarah Lawrence quickly answered with three more in their half of the inning. After a scoreless fourth the Lightning plated a run in the fifth.
Anjolie Alexander singled to center field drove in
Jennifer Kaminsky who was pinch running for
Marina Delgado who drew a walk earlier in the inning. The Gryphons got the run back in the bottom of the fifth. Lehman added their final run in the top of the sixth which was erased as Sarah Lawrence scored five times in the bottom of the frame for the final margin of victory.
In game two the Lightning bats were silenced as Lehman was only able to produce one hit, a single by Villegas in the fourth to break up the no hitter.
The Lightning will open CUNYAC play on Saturday as they host Baruch. The first pitch is schedule for 12 PM.
