CMSV Dolphins Take Two From Lightning

Bronx, NY – The College of Mt. St. Vincent took a pair of non-conference softball games from the Lightning by scores of 9-0 and 15-3.  Lehman now stands at 8-14.

The Lightning offense sputtered in the opener as Lehman only produced one hit; a single by Maina Delgado in the fourth.  Diamond Villegas, the reigning CUNYAC Player of the Week pitched a strong game striking out five while surrendering five hits and four earned runs.
In the nightcap, the Lightning jumped out to a 3-1 lead after three innings as Lehman posted a run in each of the first three innings.  After the Dolphins scored a run in the top of the first the Lightning answered with back to back doubles by Caitlin Vernon and Delgado to even the score.  In the second, Anjolie Alexander led off the frame with a single to center field and moved to second on a wild pitch.  Stephany Cruz singled to right scoring Alexander for Lehman's first lead off the night.  The Lightning tacked on another run in the third.  Vernon led off the inning with a single to right and scored on a Delgado triple to right field.  The Dolphins bats awoke in the fourth as CMSV scored seven runs on six hits assisted by two Lightning errors.  An additional two in the fifth pushed the lead to 10-3 before the Dolphins plated five more in their final at bats.

CMSV improved to 12-21.

Lehman is scheduled to return to CUNYAC play on Thursday afternoon.  The Lightning are scheduled to host Hunter in a key conference twin bill beginning at 3:30 PM.
