Bronx, NY – The Lehman College softball team improved to 11-16 overall and 6-2 in the CUNYAC with a pair of resounding victories over Brooklyn 14-2 and 15-2.
Diamond Villegas threw the opener for Lehman holding the Bulldogs at bay striking out nine and not surrendering a hit until the fifth inning. Lehman scored a run in the first on a pair of singles by Villegas and
Maria Gilfilan. The Lightning broke the game open in the second as Lehman crossed the plate nine times. Lehman added three more in the third and one in the fourth for good measure. Villegas, Gilfilan, LaBriska Charles and
Anjolie Alexander each had multiple hits.
Caitlin Vernon led the team with three RBIs.
In game two,
Tiffany Adames went the distance scattering four hits and striking out five for her fourth victory of the season. Lehman scored four in the first and added eight more in the second and had the game on cruise control. Adames and Villegas each recorded three hits in the nightcap while Adames was also credited with 3 RBIs.
The Lightning return to action Saturday afternoon to face CSI at noon on the South Field.
