Men’s Soccer Drop Heartbreaker To Union

Bronx, N.Y. – In battle of undefeated NCAA Division III Men's Soccer East Region teams, the Lehman College squad dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 decision to visiting Union College in a non-conference encounter at South Field on Saturday afternoon.  The Lightning fall to 5-1 on the season, while the Dutchmen remain perfect at 6-0 mark.

After an intense opening 20 minutes, with both sides testing each the other goalkeepers, it was Union that got on the board first nine minutes later when forward Salvador Lopez scored off an assist from midfielder Griffin Cowles.

In the second half, the Dutchmen made it 2-0 advantage in the 62nd minute when midfielder Poom Mera's 15-yard shot got past the Lightning goalkeeper Demiraldo Grunasi.

Lehman continued to pressure Union defense and with eight minutes remaining forward Mubarak Ouro scored off a pass from midfielder Eduardo Victorio to make it 2-1.

Despite the Lightning advantage in total shots 12 to 7 (5 to 4 shots on goal), the Dutchmen held on for the victory.

Lehman returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Purchase, N.Y. to take on Manhattanville College in a non-conference game.
