Women’s Soccer Fall To NJCU

Bronx, N.Y. – In a closely contested encounter, the Lehman College women's soccer team fell by a score of 2-1 to visiting New Jersey City University (NJCU) on Sunday afternoon at South Field.  The Lightning drop to 0-7 record, while the Gothic Knights improve to 5-2 mark.

NJCU opened the scoring in the 20th minute-mark when midfielder Mallensy Vargas hit her 11th tally of the season off a corner kick shot that went past the Lehman goalkeeper Rebecca Gritz for the 1-0 lead.

In the second half, Vargas notched her second tally of the game in the 62rd minute after beating two defenders and then Gritz on a one-on-one for the visitors' 2-0 advantage.

With less than 35 seconds remaining, Lightning defender Micaela Canapa scored off a free kick just outside the 18-yard box, however Gothic Knights held on for the victory.

Lehman commence CUNYAC action next Saturday (September 21st) when it visits York College-NY at noon.
