Queens, NY - The Lehman College volleyball team defeated York by scores of 25-16, 20-25, 25-17, 25-22 to improve to 2-10 overall and 1-2 in the CUNYAC. York falls to 2-4:1-1.
Franchesca Acevedo led the Lightning attack with eight kills while Andrea Alarcon and Maria Garcia added six kills apiece to pace Lehman. Yari Peguero and Heder Rodriguez were credited with four aces apiece. Rodriguez also had a team high 14 assists. Alarcon, Rodriguez and Peguero all recorded double digits digs.
In the opening set the Lightning jumped out to a 12-1 lead cruising to victory. In the second set, with the Lightning trailing 17-16, York ran off three straight points to take a four point lead. Lehman was able to cut the lead to 20-18 but would not get any closer. In the third set, the Lightning jumped out to a 16-7 lead. The Lightning were leading 24-11 and the Cardinals would not go away easily as York ran off six straight points before the Lehman closed out the set. In the fourth set with the score tied at 11, Lehman went on a 7-2 run to take control. The Lightning extended the lead to 21-14 before the Cardinals once again stormed back with a 7-1 run of their own cutting the Lehman advantage to 22-21. The Lightning would close out the set with kills from Garacia, Rodriguez and Chrissy Tran.
Lehman returns to action this weekend as they travel to New Jersey to participate in the William Paterson Tri-Match along with Kings (NY). Their first match in Wayne, NJ is slated for 11 AM against the host. The match with Kings is scheduled for 1 PM.
