Huerta’s Hat-Trick Leads Lightning To Victory Over Medgar Evers

Bronx, N.Y. – Forward Melanie Huerta notched a hat-trick and dished out an assist to lead Lehman College women's soccer team to an 8-0 victory over visiting Medgar Evers College in a CUNYAC encounter at South Field on Monday evening.  The Lightning improve to 3-6 overall record and 3-0 in CUNYAC, while the Cougars drop to 0-8 mark and 0-2 in conference play.
 
Huerta got the scoring touch in her first shot on goal just two minutes into the game. The Bronx native made it 2-0 for Lehman with her second tally of the game in the 14th minute.
 
After defender Niah Joseph got her first collegiate goal in the 18th minute-mark, teammate Micaela Canapa scored her fourth goal of the season to make it 4-0 Lightning advantage eight minutes later.
 
Midfielder Miriam Hernandez also on the score sheet in the 36th minute when she beat two defenders and the goalkeeper for a 5-0 lead before halftime.
 
In the second half, Lehman cleared its bench so that everyone saw some minutes during the CUNYAC encounter. 
 
Midfielder Valeria Rojas-Allingue made it 6-0 in the 59th minute off an assist from Huerta, before Hernandez notched her second tally of the game in the 76th minute-mark off a pass from forward Eliana Felix.
 
Huerta closed out the scoring for the Lightning and completed the hat-trick with her third goal from 20 yards out with 11 minutes remaining.

Lehman out shot Medgar 35-0 with 19 of them on goal.  Lightning goalkeeper Rebecca Gritz got the shut out victory without having to post a save.
 
Lehman is back in action on Saturday when it travels to take on College at Old Westbury in a non-conference game.
