Volleyball Faulters at Albertus Magnus Tri-Match

New Haven, CT – The Lehman College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches by identical scores of 3-0 to host Albertus Magnus and Nichols College. 

Against the hosts, Franchesca Acevado led the way for the Lightning with five kills and two service aces.  Betsy Abril was credited with 10 assists and Yari Peguero led the team with nine digs.  The Falcons cruised in the first set 25-5.  In the second set the Lightning battled before coming up short.  With the score tied at 12, the Falcons would score 10 of the next 12 points to take control of the set going on to win 25-18.  The third set was the most competitive of the morning.  Lehman owned a 22-20 advantage and led again at 24-22 before the Falcons ran off four straight points to close out the match.

In the nightcap, the Lightning fell to Nichols by scores of 25-16, 25-12 and 25-14.  Acevedo again led the Lightning with six kills.  Heder Rodriguez recorded a team high 12 assists.  Andrea Alarcon added nine digs.  In the first set with the Bison leading 9-8, Nichols went on a 10-2 run to take control of the set.  In the second set, the Bison jumped out to a 12-2 advantage and never looked back.  In the third set the Lightning continued to battle but came up short.  With the score tied at 11, Nichols took control outscoring Lehman 14-3 the rest of the set to secure the victory.

The Lightning return home on Tuesday night to face Farmingdale at 7 PM in the APEX.
