Bronx, NY – The Lehman College (15-10:9-5) men's basketball team defeated CCNY (3-22:2-12) 73-56 to secure the third seed in the upcoming CUNYAC Tournament and send seniors
Angel Nunez and
Tommy Batista out with a victory. The win also gives 20 year Head Coach Steve Schulamn his 300th career victory.
The Lightning scored the first seven points of the game and never looked back. The Beavers battled back cutting the lead to four at 11-7 but Lehman would score five unanswered to push the lead to double figures for the first time. The Beavers were able to trim the lead to nine (21-12) but Lehman quickly answered pushing the lead to 16 (29-13). Lehman settled on a 17 point half time lead as
Will Feldman hit a floater in the lane at the buzzer. CCNY scored the first seven points of the second half to make some noise before the Lightning rallied with a 14-0 run giving Lehman a 53-29 lead with 11:21 to play. The Beavers never seriously threatened the rest of the way.
Four Lehman players netted double figures on the night led by
Isaiah Geathers 19, 16 of which were in the first half.
Gian Batista chipped in 16 points while
Mo Idrissou and
Tommy Batista added 11 and 10 points respectively.
The victory gives Coach Schulman his 300
th (20 years) as a collegiate head coach at Lehman College. His 200
th victory also came n the final game of the regular season in also over City College.
Lehman will host Medgar Evers at 1 PM in the first round of the CUNYAC Post Season Tournament on Saturday.
