The Lehman College women's soccer (7-6) team defeated CCNY (7-7) 2-1 on Randall's Island earlier today in the CUNYAC Semifinals. Today's victory snapped a three-game skid against the Beavers.
Melanie Huerta found the back of the net, off of a pass from
Emily Herrera, five minutes into the match to give the Lightning a 1-0. It was her eighth of the season. Lehman would hold onto the advantage until the 74
th minute when Mackenzie Moreno got the equalizer for the Beavers with an assist to Cassidy Canberg. Seven minutes from the end of regulation,
Micaela Canapa tallied the game winner. It was her first game winner of the season and only the fourth time this year she scored.
Goalkeeper
Rebecca Gritz was called upon to make five saves.
Earlier this season, the Beavers beat the Lightning twice; 3-1 on the South Field the end of September and 2-0 on Randall's Island a week later.
Lehman will make-up a contest with Yeshiva on Thursday night before taking on John Jay in the CUNYAC Finals Saturday at 2 PM. The Finals will take place at Brooklyn with kick-off slated for 2 PM. John Jay defeated Brooklyn 4-0 in the other semifinal. Ten days ago, the Bloodhounds defeated the Lightning 1-0.
