Box Score Brooklyn, NY – The Lehman College women's soccer team fell 1-0 to John Jay in the CUNYAC Women's Soccer Final.
The Lightning and Bloodhounds played to a scoreless first half. The Lightning were looking for the through ball and came away with the best chances in the first 45 minutes. At the five-minute mark, the best chance came as
Melanie Siranaula received a through ball from Micalea Canapa and the John Jay keeper was forced to make a kick save. The Lightning were also awarded a penalty kick in the 23
rd minutes but once again the Bloodhound goalie, Cyan Scott was up to the task.
It was a game featuring a contrast in styles as John Jay was looking for possession and to build from the back whereas the Lightning were trying to spring Siranaula.
The first half had the Bloodhounds outshoot the Lightning 7-5 but all five Lehman shots were on target compared to only one for John Jay.
In the second half the Bloodhounds had the better of the paly. Five minutes into the second half the Bloodhounds had their best chance as Jillian Golden hit the post. Five minutes later Katie Healy drilled a volley off the cross bar. John Jay finally capitalized in the 76
th minute as Brooke Fontaine found the back of the net off a 30-yard free kick that went over goalkeeper
Rebecca Gritz's head.
Siranuala had a chance to tie the game with a minute to go but her got went over the bar.
The Lightning end the season with a record of 7-7. John Jay (9-5) moves onto the NCAA Tournament.
