For the second time this season the Lehman College women's soccer team defeated the Purchase Panthers. This time, playing on the Purchase campus the Lightning prevailed 2-1. Lehman got goals from Melanie Siranuala and
Melanie Huerta to secure the victory. Earlier this year, in a match played on the South Field, Lehman defeated Purchase 1-0 on a Siranaula goal.
Siranaula, the Lightning leading scorer, got the Lightning on the board first when she volleyed a loose ball, off a corner, from the top of the box into the back of the net in the ninth minute of play. The Panthers got the equalizer midway through the first stanza when Kristen Purcell capitalized on a failed Lightning clear. Huerta's game winner came just 10 minutes into the second half. From a sharp angle on the Panthers end-line, Huerta was able to find an opening at the far post.
Lightning net minder,
Rebecca Gritz, was credited with 12 saves on the night.
The Lightning return to action on Wednesday when they seek revenge against CCNY who beat Lehman last week.
