Box Score Hartford, Ct – In the consolation game of the USJ Tip-Off Tournament and each team looking for their first win, the Lightning (0-3) women fell to the Lesley Lynx (1-3) 63-58.
The Lynx led by two after the first quarter and built their advantage to 10 midway through the second period before the Lightning cut the lead down to six thanks in part to back to back buckets by
Brianna Barnes. Barnes netted nine points in the first twenty minutes but was eclipsed by
Mojisola Shokeye's 11 points. The Lightning rallied in the third quarter, tying the game at 44 after Shockeye made a pair of free throws. As the fourth quarter began the game was knotted up at 46. A Shokeye foul shot early in the final period gave the Lightning their first lead of the contest. The teams traded the lead for the next several minutes with neither squad owning more than a three-point advantage.
With the game tied at 58 and a minute to play, Leesley's Sydnie Drezke made a pair of free throws and then forced a turnover. With the Lightning forced to foul, Drezke made one of two foul shots giving Lesley a three-point advantage. However, the Lightning could not come up with the rebound and were forced to foul once again. Lesley converted both free throws and put the game out of reach in the waning seconds.
Shockeye led the way for Lehman with 25 points and 14 rebounds. Barnes was also credited with a double double scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds.
The Lightning take the next ten days off to regroup. Lehman is scheduled to host Pratt on Tuesday, November 23
rd in the APEX for their home opener.
