Lightning Post 3-1 Victory Against Bears

Bronx, N.Y. – For the second time in its last three games, the Lehman College women's soccer team posted a victory as it defeated visiting St. Joseph's College-NY, 3-1, in a non-conference encounter at South Field on Saturday afternoon.  The Lightning improve to 2-2 record, while the Bears fall to 3-2-1 on the season.

Despite outshooting St. Joseph's-NY, 14 to 2 in the first half and forcing its goalkeeper Reem Shaban to making eight saves, Lehman only tally, in the opening 45 minutes, was on a penalty kick scored by midfielder Melanie Siranaula (24th minute-mark).

The Lightning made it 2-0 in 70th minute, when midfielder Melanie Huerta scored her second goal of the season.

Nine minutes later, midfielder Micaela Canapa scored off a deflection from a Lehman free kick from top of the penalty kick for a 3-0 advantage.

St. Joseph's-NY got on the scoreboard in the 86th minute with a tally from defender Sabrina Amadio from an assist by teammate Hayden Reis for a 3-1 final.

This is the third consecutive victory by the Lightning over the Bears and fifth in the last six head-to-head meetings.

Lehman concludes its five-game home stand at South Field with a CUNYAC encounter against CCNY on Wednesday at 4:30 pm ET.
