Bronx, N.Y. – Second half goals by forwards Malik Lashley and Phillip Osei gave the hosts Lehman College men's soccer team its ticket to the CUNYAC Championship Final after a 2-0 victory against Hunter College during the semifinals on Saturday at South Field. The Lightning improve to a 9-4-2 overall record, while the Hawks fall to 7-7-1 mark.
Lehman advances to its second consecutive CUNYAC Championship Final and will once again face Baruch College, next Saturday afternoon (November 5
th) at Queens College, for the conference crown and the automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
The back-and-forth encounter was determined in the final 11 minutes as Osei broke the scoreless deadlock with his eighth goal of the season off an assist from midfielder Mohammad Jagne. A minute later, Lashley, who had just checked into the game for Lehman, notched his second tally of the season off a cross from defender Keven Umanzor. Lightning goalkeeper Demiraldo Grunasi had two key saves for his third shutout of the season.
At the game's conclusion, the Lehman Athletics Department hosted a brief celebratation as it honored the following seniors: Demetrios Argyros, Keith Burns, Grunasi, Jagne, Jimmy Lopez, Mubarak Ouro, Adrian Magana-Santos, Ryuji Sugiyama, Michael Thomas and Umanzor.
