Purchase, NY – The Lehman College men's tennis team traveled up to Purchase, NY to take on the Panther in a non-conference tennis match. The Lightning fell 8-1 to Purchase (1-2), who picked up their first win of the season.
The lone Lightning (0-2) victory came at first doubles where
Steven Forte and
Oscar Garcia defeated Julian Szuper and Simon Montalvo 8-7 (7-4). The second double duo of
Richie Magaribi and
Ray Rodriguez as well as the third doubles pairing of
Kenneth Davis and
Christian Agudo lost by the identical score of 8-1.
In singles play, Forte and Szuper battled in the most competitive match of the singles competition. It was Szuper who prevailed 6-4, 7-5. In the second hole, Garcia dropped sets by the score of 6-3, 6-0. Davis lost at love in third singles as did
Jimmy Evans in the sixth spot. Playing number four, Agudo faltered 6-2, 6-2 and Magraribi playing fifth singles dropped both sets; 6-2, 6-0.
The Lightning match originally scheduled for Saturday with Sarah Lawrence has been postponed. A new date has yet to be announced. Lehman will return to action on Tuesday afternoon as the Yeshiva Maccabes come to the Apex Courts. First serve is scheduled for 4 PM.
