Softball Sweep Twin-Bill From Brooklyn

Bronx, N.Y.  –  Two-for-two went the Lehman College softball team on Monday as it swept a CUNYAC Home-Doubleheader from Brooklyn College, with scores of 10-8 and 13-10, respectively, at South Field.  The Lightning improve to 4-4 overall record and 2-2 in CUNYAC action, while the Bulldogs drop to 2-10 mark and 0-6 in conference play.

Lehman jumped out to a 10-4 lead after five innings in the doubleheader opener, thanks to consecutive homeruns (fourth, fifth) by Lizbeth Perez as she also drove in four RBI along with crossing the plate three times. Dolly Diaz also added the Lightning offense with three RBI, while hitting a double and triple.

Brooklyn staged a come-back adding four runs to the scoreboard, however Samantha Nazar struck out two of her 13 overall batters in the final (seventh) inning for the complete game victory on the mound for Lehman.

In the nightcap, the Bulldogs took a 7-1 advantage by the top of the second.  However, in the bottom half of that inning, the Lightning's offense exploded with 10 runs.  The hosts added two more to take a 13-7 lead going into the top of sixth.  Brooklyn once again attempted a comeback as it scored three times, however, Nazar, once again closed the door as she pitched five-plus innings in relief for her second victory of the day.

Lisette Guerrero led the way for Lehman in the nightcap going three-for-four with a double and three RBI.  Diaz and Michelle Frias both went two-for-three with two RBI each, while Kaycee Isley also drove in two runs for the Lightning's win.

Lehman returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts CUNYAC rival Hunter College in a doubleheader at South Field with first pitch set for 3 pm ET.
