Bronx, N.Y. – After avoiding a no-hitter in the 19-0 loss in the opener, the Lehman College softball squandered a six-run lead to lose a heartbreaker, 7-6, in the nightcap as it was swept by visiting Baruch College in the CUNYAC twin-bill on Saturday at South Field. The Lightning fall to 8-8 overall record and 6-6 in CUNYAC action, while the Bearcats improve to 18-12 mark and 12-4 in conference play.
Despite the large margin loss in the first game, Lehman's highlight in the opener was
Michelle Frias as she singled in the bottom of fifth and ended Baruch's Carly Quint no-hitter along with her perfect game as she had retired 12 consecutive batters.
In the nightcap, the Lightning scored six times in the bottom of the second to take the lead over the Bearcats.
Mya Morrison and
Samantha Nazar each drove in two runs, while they went one-for-three and one-for four, respectively. Frias went three-for-four with a run scored and RBI, while
Doribel Duran had a two-for-three day from plate with a run scored and RBI. However, Lehman couldn't hold the lead as Baruch scored one in the third inning, two more in the fifth, three in the sixth and the game-winner in the seventh for the victory.
It was also senior day for Lightning's Duran and
Lisette Guerrero were each honored prior to today's doubleheader.
Lehman is back in action on Monday when it hosts John Jay College in the CUNYAC twin-bill with the first pitch set for 4 pm ET.
