Lightning Sweep Cardinals

Bronx, N.Y. – Two-for-two went the Lehman College softball team as it swept CUNYAC twin-bill from visiting York College-NY with scores of 14-2, 17-0, respectively, at South Field on Friday.  The Lightning improve to a 10-12 overall record and 8-10 in CUNYAC action, while the Cardinals fall to 0-18 mark and 0-14 in conference play.

In the opener, York-NY took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, however Lehman scored 12 times in the bottom half of the inning and never looked back.  Michelle Frias led the Lightning offense going two-for-four with three RBI and a run scored, while Dolly Diaz crossed the plate twice and drove in two runs.  Andrea Alarcon also scored twice while driving in a run and Samantha Nazar had two runs scored with an RBI.  Sky Mercado, who had an RBI and a run scored on offense, also pitched a two-hitter while striking out six batters for the victory on the mound.

In the nightcap, Lehman scored nine runs in the first inning, two in the second, two more in the third and four in the fourth for the victory.  Nazar had four RBI, while going two-for-three with two runs scored. Jessica Perez added four RBI with two runs scored and pitched a one-hitter for the win.

The Lightning conclude the regular season on Saturday when it takes on John Jay College in a CUNYAC doubleheader at College of Staten Island with the first pitch set for 5 pm ET.
