Bronx, N.Y. – Two-for-two went the Lehman College baseball team as it concluded the regular season with non-conference doubleheader sweep against visiting Yeshiva University, by scores of 8-6 and 12-11, respectively, both in eight innings each, on Friday at South Field. The Lightning end 2022 with an 8-17 overall ledger, while the Maccabees conclude the season with a 2-27 mark.
Trailing 5-2 in the bottom of the fifth of the twin-bill opener, Lehman's
Nick Smith got his first collegiate hit as he smacked a three-run homer to tie the game.
After the Maccabees regained the lead (6-5) in the top of the eighth,
Jeremmy Santos' hit a three-run homer to clinch the win for the Lightning.
David Torres pitched the last three innings for Lehman for the victory on the mound.
In the nightcap, Yeshiva once again jumped out to an early lead (6-1), however Lehman got four runs in the bottom of the third and one each in the fourth and fifth respectively, to take a 7-6 advantage.
The Maccabees continued the see-saw battle and regained the lead in the sixth (9-7), only to have the Lightning regain the edge in the bottom half of the inning (11-9). Yeshiva scored twice in the seventh (11-11) to send the game into the eighth; however, in the bottom half of the inning with two outs and Lehman with runners on first and second base,
Justin Nunez singled in the game-winner.
Santos and
Eamon Maher both scored twice and drove in three runs each for the Lightning, while
Ranssel Pinedo got the last three innings on the mound for the victory.
