Flushing, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams commence the spring campaign at the Queens College Invitational on Saturday.
The Lightning women were led by
Aminata Sissoko who claimed three medals at the track and field venue on the campus of Queens College. Sissoko won gold in the 100 Hurdles clocking in at 19.81, while she finished second in the Long Jump with 3.62m. The New York City native Sissoko was also part of the 4 x 400 Relay squad with
Lesley Tolentino,
Margaret Odonkor and
Nidia Nelson they captured the bronze.
Other Lehman women that finished in the top six in their events were
Elainne Rojas Mesa (18.27m) and
Valerie McCree (15.16m) whom took fourth and sixth, respectively in the Javelin. McCree also claimed sixth place in the Discus with 16.56m.
For the Lightning men, two squads obtained medals in the 4x400 Relay as group composed of
Obinna Njoku II,
Musa Mazreku,
Luis Feliz and Malik Aldridge obtained the silver (4:39.20), while the team of
Ismael Barry,
Marquese Johnson,
Kayshaun Higgs and
Andrew Cassin claimed the bronze (4:45.10), respectively.
Kenneth Davis and
Kal-El Brown also won the bronze medals in the Shot Put (11.39m) and 400 Hurdles (1:14.59), while teammates
Jordan Brandon (10.89m) and
Dontay Washington (1:22.62) each finished fourth in the respective events. Cassin took fourth in the Javelin (34.88m), while
Dontay Washington did the same in the 110 Hurdles (19.16).
Rounding out the remaining Lehman men finishing in the top five were Njoku II in the Long Jump (5.53m), Aldridge in Shot Put (10.22m) and
Kenneth Davis in Discus (30.09m)
The Lightning are back in action on Saturday (April 1
st) when they travel to Chester, Pa. to compete in the Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener University.
