The Lehman softball team split games with Purchase to improve their record to 3-4-1. Jireh Espina went the distance in game one coming away with a 7-6 victory. Lizbeth Perez was 5-8 at the plate with 3 runs scored and 3 rbi. Yudelis Pena also had a strong afternoon at the plate going 4-8 with 2 rbi.
Purchase jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings before the Lightning battled back.Lehman needed 3 runs in the seventh to tie the game and added two more in the top of the eighth to secure the victory. In the seventh, the Lightning scored 3 runs with the assist of 2 errors and 2 hits. In the eighth, the Lightning started the frame with Espina on second base. She was moved to third on a ground out. Lanaiyah Henriquez then proceeded to single up the middle to score Espina. Nicole Lopez then grounded out, moving Henriquez to third. After Figueroa reached on an error moving Lopez to third, Perez singled to left, scoring Henriquez. The frame ended with Pena singling up the middle and Figueroa getting thrown out at home. The Panthers only got one run in the bottom of the eighth for the final margin of victory.
In game two, the Lightning jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Perez started things with a bunt single. She then proceeded to steal, second, third and home. Purchase answered with five runs in tier first three at bats. Lehman got one back in the top of the fifth after Ilena Calle walked and then scored on a Perez single. Purchase answered with three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to round out the scoring.
The Lightning are back in action Sunday afternoon with two more games in Center Valley, PA as they face DeSales.
