Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College softball team lost a CUNYAC twin-bill against visiting John Jay College, 2-0, 16-0, on Friday at South Field. The Lightning go to a 7-20-1 overall record and 2-8 in CUNYAC action, while the Bloodhounds improved to an 28-11 mark and 9-1 in conference play.
Trailing 2-0 going into the bottom of the seventh inning in the opener, Lehman had a runner on base with one out and the tying run at the plate. However, infielder
Kaycee Isley reached on a fielder's choice which resulted in baserunner
Yudelis Pena out at second base. Then pitcher
Jireh Espina struck out to end the inning and the Lightning's chances for comeback. Espina and outfielder
Lizbeth Perez had the only hits for Lehman.
In the nightcap, the Lightning trailed 4-0 after two innings, however the Bloodhounds scored eight runs in the third and four more in the fourth for the victory. Isley and infielder
Patria Sanchez had the only hits for Lehman.
The Lightning conclude their home stand and the regular season at South Field on Tuesday (May 7th) with a non-conference doubleheader against York College-NY with first pitch set for 5 pm ET.
