Men’s Soccer Defeat Hunter; Advance To CUNYAC Semis

Bronx, N.Y. – Goals by forwards Ashraf Abubakar and Ibrahim Kone gave the Lehman College men's soccer team a 2-1 home-victory against the defending conference champion Hunter College during the opening round of the CUNYAC Postseason Tournament at South Field on Wednesday.  The Lightning go to an 8-2-4 overall record, while the Hawks dropped to a 5-7-4 mark.

Lehman got on the board first with five minutes remaining in the half off a penalty kick goal from Abubakar.

Kone made it 2-0 three minutes into the second half with an unassisted header off a rebound shot off the Hawks' goalpost from Lightning defender Lance Brdaric.

Hunter got on the scoresheet in the 56th minute mark when forward Brandon Fridburg's notched penalty kick tally to make it 2-1 in favor of Lehman.

The Lightning held off any remaining offensive attack from the Hawks as goalkeeper Andres Barajas made six saves for the victory.

Lehman advances to the CUNYAC Championship Semifinals on Saturday (November 1st) and will face the hosts and conference regular season winner Brooklyn College at 3 pm ET.
