Bronx, N.Y. – A 16-point performance from guard
Heaven Figueroa wasn't enough for the Lehman College women's basketball team to obtain its first victory since 1970 against visiting Montclair State University as it fell in a non-conference encounter, 64-59, at The APEX Main Gym on Wednesday evening. The Lightning go to a 1-2 overall mark, while the Red Hawks improved to a 2-0 record.
Lehman jumped out to a 21-16 lead after the first quarter; however, Montclair State went on a 17 to 11 run in the second period to take a one-point advantage at the intermission.
In the third quarter, the Lightning continued to aim for its first triumph over the Red Hawks in 55 years as it regained the lead 47-43. Montclair State then went on a 20 to 12 run in the fourth period to continue its winning streak against Lehman to 11 consecutive games.
Guards
Nelson Asamoah and
Emily Kennedy added 11 points each for the Lightning, while teammate
Sage Fanelli had 10 points.
Lehman will be back in action on Friday (November 14th) when it travels to Goucher College in Baltimore, Md., to compete at the Renie Amoss Tip Off Classic, against Penn State Berks at 7 pm ET.
