Sage Fanelli's 19-point performance wasn't enough for the Lehman College women's basketball team as it lost the opener of the Governor's Challenge Tournament, 82-73, to hosts Salisbury University at Wicomico County Civic Center on Saturday. The Lightning go to a 3-3 overall mark, while the Seagulls improved to a 3-2 record.
After Lehman took a 21-16 first period lead, Salisbury rebounded in the second quarter and went on a 24 to 18 run to take a one-point advantage at the intermission (40-39). The Seagulls then outscored the Lightning 42 to 34 in the next two periods to hold on for the victory.
Guards
Isabela Araujo and
Heaven Figueroa notched 17 points each for Lehman, while teammate
Emily Kennedy added 11 points.
The Lightning will be back in action on Sunday (November 23rd) when it takes on Kean University, in the consolation game of the Governor's Challenge Tournament at 11 am ET.
