Softball Sweeps Twin-Bill At Sarah Lawrence

Bronxville, N.Y. – The Lehman College softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader (14-0, 8-0) against hosts Sarah Lawrence College on Wednesday evening at Mary Levine Field.  The Lightning go to a 4-2 overall record, while the Gryphons dropped to an 0-10 mark.

After Lehman jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning of the twin-bill opener, the Lightning added six more in the second, three in the third and one in the fifth for the victory.  Jireh Espina pitched a two-hit shutout as she also homered, scored three times and drove in four runs for Lehman.  Infielder Patria Sanchez hit a round tripper with three runs scored and three RBI, while shortstop also had three RBI.  Outfielder Lizbeth Perez also had a home run for the Lightning as she scored twice and drove in two more runners.

In the nightcap, Lehman had a 4-0 advantage going into the fifth inning before adding four more runs for the win.  Espina registered another homer for the Lightning with two runs scored and two RBI, while Sanchez had two RBI and two runs scored.  Perez and outfielder Yudelis Pena each smacked home run, while Angelina Perez drove in a run and pitched a three-hit shutout for the victory.

Lehman is back in action on Saturday (March 29th) when it hosts a non-conference twin-bill, at South Field, against University of Mount Saint Vincent with first pitch set for noon.
