Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's soccer team fell 2-0 to visiting Brooklyn College in a crucial CUNYAC encounter on Wednesday evening at South Field. With the loss, the Lightning drop to a 5-4-4 overall record (2-1-3 in conference play), while the Bulldogs improved to 7-3-4 overall and 4-2 in CUNYAC action.
Midfielder Alejandro Barreto opened the scoring for Brooklyn in the 26th minute, capitalizing on an assist from defender Humayd Ali Guard. The Bulldogs struck again just seven minutes after halftime. Defender Sergej Kulla was credited with Brooklyn's second tally after launching a free kick from his own half into the Lehman 18-yard box. The ball was misread by the Lightning defense and goalkeeper
Matthew Strainz, bouncing straight into the open net.
Although Lehman outshot the visitors 13 to 11—putting six of those attempts on target—Brooklyn goalkeeper Juan Carlos Solis Cazares made every save to secure the clean sheet.
Now in jeopardy of missing the CUNYAC postseason, Lehman will look to secure its spot in the conference tournament in the regular-season finale. The Lightning host Hunter College at South Field on Saturday, October 24th, with kickoff set for 3 pm ET.
