Men’s Soccer Plays To Scoreless Draw Against Medgar Evers

Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's soccer team battled visiting Medgar Evers College to a scoreless tie in a hard-fought CUNYAC encounter at South Field on Tuesday evening. With the draw, the Lightning remain unbeaten in their last four games, moving to 2-3-4 overall and 1-0-3 in CUNYAC action. Meanwhile, the Cougars shift to a 5-1-2 mark and 2-1-1 in conference play.

Lehman controlled much of the offensive pressure, outshooting Medgar Evers 15-10 overall and 6-4 in shots on target. The Lightning also gained a man advantage for the final 13 minutes of the match following a red card ejection issued to Cougars midfielder Shammar Edwards. Despite the edge, Lehman could not break through as the Medgar Evers goalkeeper Vendel Joseph racked up six clutch saves—several in the closing minutes of the second half—to preserve the tie.

On the defensive end, Lightning goalkeeper Matthew Strainz turned away four shots to anchor the backline, earning his second complete shutout of the season.

Lehman continues its homestand at South Field on Monday, October 12, squaring off against Maritime College in a Columbus Day non-conference matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 pm ET.
