Zenaya Ortiz drove in five runs and scored three times to lead the Lehman College softball team to its first victory of the season as it defeated the hosts Yeshiva University, 26-12, in a non-conference encounter at Riverside County Park Field #5 on Sunday. The Lightning go to a 1-2 overall record, while the Maccabees dropped to an 0-1 mark.
After taking a 6-1 lead after two innings of action, Lehman exploded with 11 runs in the third, then added two more in the fourth and seven in the fifth for the victory. The 26 runs is also the most scored by the Lightning since 2022 campaign (27-8 win over York-NY).
Infielder
Patty Sanchez went two-for-three with a homer, two runs scored and three RBI for Lehman, while catcher
Lanaiyah Henriquez had three RBI and crossed home plate twice. Shortstop
Nicolle Swierczek was two-for-two with three runs and two RBI, while
Kiara Garcia got the win on the mound and struck out 12 batters.
The Lightning are back in action on Friday (March 13th) with a twin-bill home opener at South Field against non-conference opponent University of Mount St. Vincent with first pitch set for noon.
