The 411 on Gilbert Garcia:
During the 2007 offseason, Gilbert Garcia was the most highly-touted recruit for the Lightning. A transfer student from Western Oklahoma State College, Garcia had a tremendous season in 2008. In 35 games played, the phenom hit .324, recording 48 hits, including 12 doubles, three triples, and two homeruns. He also tallied 32 RBI's and had 72 total bases on the year He is a five-tool player who can hit for power and has a tremendous arm. Garcia caught the eye of Coach Quirk while playing summer ball for the Kingsbridge Angels.
Coach Quirk’s comments on Gilbert: “Gilbert is this team's MVP. He was an All-CUNY player last year, and with good reason. We expect him to repeat the season he had last year and more. He has unbelieveable arm strength and tremendous power, and we'll look for him to be a big factor for us, especially in conference games."
