Steven Schulman


In his 24 seasons at the helm of Lehman College, Schulman has transformed the program into one of the most respected and successful programs in the Atlantic Region. Schulman has amassed over 300 wins (375-266) and won .585 percent of his games. His 375 wins make him the All-Time wins leader in Lehman College men’s basketball history. His success within the CUNYAC is even more impressive, winning over 67% of his conference games. Over that period, he has led Lehman to 6 CUNYAC regulars season titles (2002, 2005, 2012, 2016, 2018, 2022) a trip to the NCAA tournament (2004) and an ECAC Championship in 2009. Both of these achievements were firsts in school history. His teams have qualified for CUNYAC post-season play a remarkable 23 times in 24 seasons and they have finished in the top 4 of the conference 18 of his 24 seasons. Over his last 8 years the Lightning have averaged over 17 wins a year and have advanced to the CUNYAC Championship game on 5 different occasions. This success has brought several accolades. He has been named CUNYAC Coach of the year an impressive 5 times as well as Hudson Valley Coach of the year. 
 
Schulman spent 11 seasons as an assistant coach prior to arriving in the Bronx. His college coaching career began as a graduate assistant at Ithaca College (Ithaca, NY) after a season with Ithaca he moved on to Elizabethtown College where he worked for four years with mentor and all-time winningest coach in school history Robert Schlosser. While working at Elizabethtown Schulman helped guide the Blue Jays to two trips to the NCAA Tourney. Schulman then moved onto Binghamton University where he helped in the transition of the Bearcats from Division III to Division I. Binghamton currently resides in the America East Conference. 
 
Outside the hoop’s world Schulman works as a Physical Education teacher and Athletic Director at the High School of American Studies at Lehman College. A specialized high school which is part of the NYCDOE. He also serves as director of the LWB Skyscrapers AAU basketball program which he founded in 2014. 
 
Schulman received his BA from Syracuse University in 1989 and earned his MS from Ithaca College in 1990. Schulman currently resides in Hastings on Hudson with his wife Kimberly and son Jake.
