WOMEN'S TENNIS FINISHES 2008 REGULAR SEASON ON HIGH NOTE, DOWNING BEARS IN THE BRONX

The Lehman College women's tennis team (7-9 Overall, 5-3 CUNYAC) finished their 2008 regular season on a high note, as the Lightning defeated the Bears of the College of St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) by a score of 7-2 Saturday afternoon at the APEX Tennis Courts in the Bronx.

The Lightning got out to a great start in doubles competition, taking all three matches. At No. 1 doubles, it was Lehman's team of Evauna Neville and Aurora Peters defeating St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn's pair of Jessica Lintner and Tara Deahn by a score of 8-2. No. 2 doubles saw the Lightning's duo of Natalee Smith and Mina Jeung defeat the Bears' Darci Crimi and Mirlinda Krivac by a score of 8-3, and Dalia Rodriguez and Amaia Liriano were successful at No. 3 doubles, turning back St. Joseph's Allison Kavanagh and Elizabeth Shea 8-3.

When played switched over to singles, Neville suffered a rare loss at No. 1 as she fell to Lintner by a score of 8-7. Peters picked things up for Lehman College at No. 2 singles as she turned back Deahn by a score of 8-2. Smith, Jeung, and Rodriguez picked up victories over Krivac, Crimi, and Kavanagh at No's 3, 4, and 5 singles respectively, and at No. 6 singles, it was Shea turning back Kwon, 8-2.

Following the victory, Head Coach Zack Davis expressed his thoughts.

“This is a very pleasing victory for us, especially since it gives us some momentum as we head into the CUNYAC quarterfinal match against the College of Staten Island and Tuesday,” Davis said. “I am very proud with how far we have come this season. We have won six of our past nine matches, and hopefully we'll keep our winning ways going against the Dolphins.”

Lehman and the College of Staten Island will battle in quarterfinal round play on Tuesday afternoon at the APEX Center, with match time scheduled for 4:00pm.
